Red River Crossing (Avalon Westerns)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (June, 2002)
Average review score:

Red River Crossing by Kent ConwellIf you have never read one of Kent Conwell's books, you are missing a lot. And this one only proves that he gets better and better. I enjoyed reading this. Mr. Conwell not only makes believable characters but he instills humor, action and emotion in his works. When I read the part about the boil, I could picture the whole event the way he expressed it on paper. He is an excellent writer. Of all his books that I have read, I have enjoyed every single one of them. Red River Crossing was no exception. A five stars, and a two thumbs upward. This book is wonderfully written and fantastic!

A Wonderful ReadGrant Carpenter was ready to make his family complete again with a mother so he was planning to marry Erica. The book opens up with the children (Todd & Tara) not wanting him to marry Erica for she does not like them. He does not listen until he over hears Erica talking to the Organist about them being brats. He immediately calls off the wedding. Erica's friend Leslie Lane tells Grant that she will still look after the children while he gets away and recovers from the lack of a wedding. Due to some unfortunate and fortunate circumstances he ends up at the ranch with his kids. He and Leslie becomes good friends. You have to read the rest to know how it ends. It was a wonderful book. I love the way Marilyn Shank writes. Run to your nearest library or order the book for your personal library. You won't regret it.

Renovating Love (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (December, 2000)
Average review score:

My kind of RomanceI really enjoyed this book. The Heroine is an idependant yet femanine woman which is a refreshing change from the needy female we see in so many romances. Her hero is true to form and you believe that perhaps chivarly is not dead. The author's style is easy to read, her attention to detail allows your to really see the people and the places she is describing. I read the book cover to cover without putting it down as I became completely enchanted by the lives of the characters.

DIFFICULT CHOICESMANDY'S devotion to her grandmother brings her back to live with her in Durant. Meeting the doctor who prescribed Amanda's return after her Granny endured a brief hospital stay, leads to Mrs. McDermid's unique skill at conveying internal feelings. The reader is aware of Amanda's tension. The dctor is sometimes overwhelmingly "macho". The relationship unfolds a deep, delicius desire between friendship and new opportunities. Amanda, a secretary in business, accepts a teaching position because of an unexpected turn of events. Mrs. McDermid gives us another career novel highly commendable for young women about to enter the world after college.Mary Kelly Toms River, New Jersey

Average review score:

Lovely romance- thoroughly enjoyableI read this on vacation and thoroughly enjoyed it. For what it is- a popular romance- I decided to give it 5 stars. It doesn't compare to great literature, but everything about it is charming. Set in Vermont, a romantic Scotsman and single woman begin to explore a budding romance. They travel the Vermont countryside together through the fall. It's a lovely and charming story.

The Secret Admirer (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (August, 2001)
Average review score:

The Secret AdmirerI enjoyed reading this book. It was a page turner. Ms Mahon instilled characters in her book that had us cheering for them. When Matt was mysteriously courting his next door neighbor without her knowing it, always thinking of him as just a friend, this was wonderful. The book was truly delightful and everyone should read it. I loved the part when Emma discovered Matt's net worth. You could almost see her eyes bulge out. A good book to read!!

Shannon's Way : An Avalon Western
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (October, 2000)
Average review score:

Shannon's WayThis is a book that is filled with sadness but yet filled with tremendous love and strength. It shows how families stick together no matter what. How they endure to the end. It is a togetherness that not many people have in their lifetime. I loved the characters of Clay and Kathy. I was saddened by the young boy but know that the west was filled with outlaws that did exactly what they wanted to do. But with good men like Clay, the bad guys didn't last long. This western is filled with power and gripping love. It deserves a five stars.

Shannon: Carrying the Star (Avalon Western)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (April, 2002)
Average review score:

Shannon: Carrying the StarThis was my very first book by Mr. Friend. It will not be my last. From the first page to the introduction of his father, to the next painful step that the young man, Shannon, has to face, he is endured with many obstacles, and not once does this young man back away. I was mesmerized after the second page. Every character in this book was alive. Mr. Friend made you feel as if you were standing right in the middle of the introductions to the gunfights. You don't find too many people like Shannon. I am glad that Mr. Friend gave him the character that he did. It made the story more enjoyable. I was on the edge of my seat. This is a five stars, a two thumbs, and a book that you should read and encourage your teens to read, girls and boys. This was a remarkable and truly well written story. Go out and read it. You won't be sorry. I am still thinking about it this morning. Now to read his other books. Mr. Friend is a great storyteller.

Smokey & the Oatmeal Man (Avalon Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (April, 1999)
Average review score:

Mentor, Author, FriendBev's book is a link to a woman that had a profound and major role in my life.
The story is fun, bright, and a peek into the author's mind. Smokey is a reflection of Bev. A person who you'd like to call friend and keep intouch with forever. The attitude they share is fun and infectious, there were many a time while reading the book I would have bouts of deja vu seeing things that I know happened in Bev's life.
Read this book and fall in love with the characters and with her. Buy it here, find it at the library or borrow it from a friend but be sure to read this book. Her words and her life shine thru. I read this book when ever I miss her. She was, is and will always be my best friend and my mentor.
I miss you Bev. You're in my heart and thoughts everyday ..
Your friend, previous student Skeeter...
